Review the Mechanics of Settings Permissions

Permissions can be site-wide, space specific, user specific, group specific, role specific, assigned in a batch or per user, and rule-based dependent on reputation thresholds.

Site-wide Settings in the First Column of the Permissions Table

For the individual or any group, the first column with the gear icon, sets the site-wide permissions for that user or group. By extension, this applies to all users who are a member of that group, unless overridden by membership in another group if the permissions differ, with precedence determined by group weight.

Overrides for Each Space

You can define permissions for the individual or group for each space, and the settings for each space can override the community-wide default settings.

Batch Selection Based on Role

  • Clusters of discrete permissions.
  • Clear, Grant, Delete: Select the batch option and click the check boxes for each role, then save. For common use cases of granting or blocking access for a group to a particular space, check the top three boxes and the bottom one.

Advanced

  • Line item modification.
  • As you click into advanced, you can see we organize permissions into sections called roles. Each role was represented by a single checkbox in the previous example, and all the permissions in a given role would have been granted or revoked. Through the advanced option, you can have line item control to leave as inherited, enable only upon achievement of a particular reputation level, expressly grant, or expressly revoke.
