Group Weight & Membership

Group Weight

When creating or editing a group, you can enter/update the group weight. The lower the weight number (smaller number) the greater the order of precedence. Note the out-of-the-box groups all have large numbers associated with them, thus allowing for you to add many other groups. The system uses group weight to resolve conflicts when a user is a member of multiple groups and one or more of the groups grants a permission where other groups have revoked it, either on a particular space or site-wide.

Group Membership

Click the group name to see a list of the users who are a member of that group. You can select and remove members from the group, or you can navigate to the individual user by clicking their name and then group memberships and add or remove groups.

NOTE:

You can make a group a member of another group. This is a feature that allows for complex group structures when you use sub-groups for tracking, or to inherent features with only selective overrides. Reserve this for only very complex communities as it creates a multi-layer set of dependencies which can be difficult to debug. Additionally, there is currently no function to reverse this. Currently, you cannot delete groups, but you can rename and reconfigure them to recycle them. We plan to address these limitations in a future release.
